When temperature of the body rises, it is called fever. Fever comes due to the inflammation in any portion of the body or by mixing poison in the blood. Fever that comes again after one time is called intermittent fever. The fever, which sustains all the time and temperature does not come down, is called remittent or continuous fever. The fever which rises again after coming down once is called half or sub-remittent fever.

Fever indicates that there is any type of infection in the body. Normal temperature of the body is 98.6 F or 36 degree centigrade. The temperature of the body can be measured by putting thermometer in mouth or armpit.

Symptom

Causes

  • upper respiratory tract infections (RTIs)

  • common childhood illnesses, such as chickenpox and whooping cough
  • Infections with germs called viruses such as colds, coughs, flu, diarrhoea, etc.
  • Infections with germs called bacteria such as pneumonia, joint infections (septic arthritis), urine infections, kidney infections, septicaemia and meningitis  ear infections and infected skin rashes.
  • Inflammatory conditions and reactions may cause fever, including Kawasaki disease, some types of arthritis, and reactions to some medicines.

  • Other types of infection such as malaria and dengue, and tuberculosis.
  • Heat stroke
